I am strongly attracted to
the natural landscape. I immensely enjoy being in natural lands and
wildernesses. In being in these special areas, I express my passion and
excitement by drawing and painting not only what I see but more
importantly what I experience by being there. I paint both a physical
landscape as well as a inner landscape. The inner landscape, while
personal, is a key for art opening an intellectual realm to all of us.
Through this combination of body and mind, I see myself as a
contemporary artist but with roots in Impressionism and
Post-Impressionism.
My experience with art began as a child growing up with a father who was not only a commercial artist by profession but also a jeweler and watercolor artist. My father’s work was primarily landscape and he was a Signature Member of the Southwest Watercolor Society. He has and will continue to be a great inspiration for me.
I have been drawing and painting for twenty years. My primary media is soft pastels and oil paints. Recently, I have become a print maker, working in a variety of techniques. I live in Portland as the NW is great place to experience a large variety of landscapes. From spring to fall, I go on outings for opportunities to be in places that inspire me to create, often going to places that are not easily accessed. I produce drawings or plein air paintings on these outings which I then use to create studio paintings and prints.
